KONICHIWA!

Alex and Jenn here reporting all the way from Tokyo!!!

It's awesome and freezing here....we are buggered and will probably head off to bed early tonite to recuperate for TWO FULL DAYS OF DISNEY!!! WOWEE!!!!

Today was interesting..first time in Japan for both of us...learnt a few things, including:

  • Japanese ppl do NOT talk on trains...
  • If you catch a train in tokyo - you must fall asleep whether you are standing or sitting..
  • the above rules can be ignored after 5pm.  Ppl seem to go wild!
  • Japanese ppl do not like to hold hands or show affection  Alex and I got a few wierd looks
  • No one is allowed to wear bulky clothing even if it's 0-9 degrees.
  • School girls must have skirts way above their knees and socks pulled up to half way up the calves...once again...no exception if winter
  • girls must have gold hair
  • girls must wear heels

anyway....more to report later

talk later!

i had a motion listed for court today.  I checked the court list yesterday and thought it strange it wasnt there.

So this morning i called the district court for an explanation.  Apparently there was a directions hearing for the matter last Friday and the court dismissed the whole proceedings.  CRAP

I checked and double checked my outlook calendar but there was no reminder there...even though i had sent myself a reminder....  That's how i usually do it and it usually works!  Because i didnt have the reminder on my calendar - i did not realise that the matter was relisted last week.  And the matter was dismissed in my absence.

I am SO DEAD! the client is going to kill me.

my partner's going to kill me....

i dont want to die...not yet anyway!

Last night, the best contestant of Idol 2006 (in my view) was booted off.

Like Shannon in the first series - Mr Dean Geyer was the perfect package:
  • awesome raw voice
  • composed own music
  • played guitar
  • really really good looking
  • had black belt in karate
  • humble
  • could do backflips
  • was a christian
  • a true gentleman (opened doors for girls)
You can't compare the final three cos they all have totally different styles...so really - it's a matter of preference now.

Poor Dean - he's had it tough the last view weeks as the judges and fans of the other contestants gave him a hard time about getting there because of his looks and the fact that he's a virgin.

I still don't understand how ppl can NOT like someone just because they are better looking? And I still stand by my view that this is NOT just a singing competition.  It is Australian IDOL...not SINGER...if it was just a singing comp - then it would be on radio ...or the contestants will be behind a screen while they sing and we should not see their faces until the winner is announced! haha.  Dean's talent is being very very good looking...just like Jess' talent is to hit high notes and Damien's is to speak with the funny accent.

Anyway...i am actually happy that he's booted though as it guarantees that he will not fall under the winner's curse.  My predictions - Jess will win, disappear and then join the young divas - may even do a few deoderant ads.  Damo may come out with an album but then disappear.  I think I'm quite good @ predicting...afterall...i picked Shannon Noll back in season 1! hehehehe

I am a sucker for flowers delievered to the office...

I remember watching chinese series when flowers are delivered to a girl in the office...it's SO ROMANTIC...and i would daydream about when my boyfriend would send me flowers to my office....=)

but reality is a little different to chinese series - mainly cos the flowers on chinese series are just a LOT nicer than the stuff you get in sydney....not that i'm complaining =)

when alex first sent me flowers to my office..i remember feeling SO SPECIAL...trust me - it's the best way to "lum" a girl!!!

anyway - the reason i suddenly blogged this today is because i had some flowers delievered to my office today.  The office services guy came in with a bunch of really georgeous and smelly (in a nice way) flowers and I FELT SO SPECIAL!

For a few seconds - i thought maybe it was alex - cos it was our "-1 month wedding anniversary"...but then i realised that he hadnt sent flowers to my office since vday this year so i saw no reason why he'd start...hahaha.......it turns out that they were from my good good friend Helen in London!!! The flowers were for no reason @ all - it was just to put a smile on my face before my wedding (which she cant make it to)

YEAH!!!

So the lesson to all the boys (who have even bothered to read so far down the blog) is...SEND FLOWERS TO YOUR GF/WIVES/PROSPECTIVE GF/PROSPECTIVE WIVES!!!  It's the most effective way to brighten someone's day and make them feel REALLY REALLY special!

If you wish to sign a petition, go to http://www.makeastand.org.au/campaign/index.stw?campaign_id=2 See below for more details. Peter Kaldor

Urgent Request from Jim Wallace
MD of Australian Christian Lobby
www.acl.org.au

We are at a critical stage in the campaign against cloning and we have been working with a very effective coalition of churches and groups that are now within reach of achieving this, although there is no guarantee, as many Senators could go either way.

Could I ask if you would be prepared to send the email below to your churches and ask them in turn to send it out on their email lists - we really need to be able to table a lot of signatures to support all the other activities and strategies in place on this.

Could I also ask for the power of prayer of the church to be brought in behind this if possible, it is a line we must not cross.

Thanks and God Bless,

Jim Wallace
---------------------

"We are currently faced with legislation to allow cloning that is an absolute affront to the Biblical view of life and its creation.  Unless we oppose this strongly we will be faced with an increasingly utilitarian approach to life and a significant weakening of the principle of the sanctity of life that has underpinned much of the best of the humanity of Western and Christian society.

Those working on lobbying on this issue have made excellent progress in the last few weeks, despite a concerted push by science and the pharmaceutical industry.  An important element in influencing the vote of Senators during the debate expected on 6 - 9 Nov, will be the presentation of a petition that opposes cloning.

A VERY EASY facility to add names to the petition is available at the following link.  http://www.makeastand.org.au/campaign/index.stw?campaign_id=2

It will literally take only a minute to register and will be an important act in preserving the Christian character of our society.

Could you please send this email out on your church or organisational email list and encourage people to register and forward the site to friends.
Could I also ask that you promote the site in your church service tonight , as we need to close the petition by 1 Nov at the latest.

Thank you and God Bless

Managing Director
Australian Christian Lobby."

URGENT ACTION

PLEASE contact your 12 State Senators (2 in ACT and NT) and ask them not to support this Bill which would allow the creation of embryos for research.
* Remind them this is morally wrong and that nothing has changed since 2002 when the Parliament voted unanimously to BAN all forms of cloning.
* Remind them that ADULT stem cells have already provided more than 70 cures and treatments whereas embryo stem cells have provided NONE.
The Senate vote is due in the week beginning 6 November so NOW is the time to contact them!
They are not in Canberra this week!

Contact details for Senators: see http://www.aph.gov.au/Senate/senators/homepages/index.asp?sort=state

ALSO write to your federal MP, giving them the same message. The House of Representatives vote will probably be held two weeks later.

Jenny Stokes.

YEAH! I'm so excited!

Long ago, Alex had promised me that he'd take me to Disneyland for our honeymoon.

But then in the last few months...after sitting down and looking @ our budget and the gi-normous amount of money we were spending for our wedding and to set up a new home...and after realising that peak travel season started on the day AFTER our wedding...I said to Alex that it was okay for him to break that promise cos I understand our situation (as long as he took me eventually once before we had kids)

A few weeks ago - after we found out we were moving to Sale - Alex said he'd organise the honeymoon.  Last week, he said he had booked the tickets but refused to tell me where we were going cos he wanted to "surprise".

I really wanted to know so i kept annoying him and even called up pretending to the the travel agency to confirm ticket booking etc..hehehe...but it didnt work (he's too smart)

but then last week...after doing my best "pwetty please" face all day...he finally relented (he said he needed my help to work out itinery)...and he announced we were going to JAPAN!!!

Japan has a DISNEYLAND!

YEAH!!!

I am very blessed

Bowing before an altar

Alex's sister is getting married this weekend (yeah!)

I went to the rehearsal on Wednesday night. I'm doing the bible reading, Ephesians 5.  This is the first time I have read from a catholic bible.

The priest explained to me that before i walked up to do the reading, I had to "bow before the altar".  After my reading I had to "bow before the altar" before returning to my seat.

Now the "altar" was just a table in the middle of the front of the church.

My question is: Is it right for me to bow before the altar?

on saturday night...a few of us decided to work out our BMIs.

For those who don't know, BMI is Body Mass Index.  It's suppose to give an indication of the amount of body fat your body has.  It is worked out with the following formula:

BMI = weight (kgs) / height^2(m)

Results:

  • Starvation: less than 15
  • Underweight: less than 18.5
  • Ideal: from 18.5 to 25
  • Overweight: from 25 to 30
  • Obese: from 30 to 40
  • Morbidly Obese: greater than 40
  • Now I KNOW I'm not fat.  I know I'm skinny. BUT i NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE UNDERWEIGHT!!!!

I'm totally freaked out now! cox I dont WANT to be underweight!  I eat more than any other female in my family.  I snack a lot. Yes i may not exercise...but i didnt think that would make me underweight!!!

I've eaten all i can...i dont think i can eat no more.....

    maybe i have worms?

Do you tip on top of a surcharge on Sundays?

Went out to dinner last night.  It was a Sunday night.

There was a 5% surcharge on the bill because it was "Sunday and/or Public Holiday".

I get annoyed when i get "forced" to charge a tip.  In fact, it annoys me so much that I just don't.

Now, I'm a fair person.  I believe a "tip" is a tip.  It is paid only when I feel that the restaurant and its waiters have done something that deserves to be rewarded.  A "tip" is not must...it is something that needs to be "earnt".  Having said that though, I do generally tip UNLESS the restaurant does something that really annoys me - like assuming that I had tipped the full 20 bucks extra that we had paid the bill with (Doyles Darling Hbr)

So last night, the four of us (NB: we are all earning decent incomes)...decided to NOT pay a tip on top of the surcharge.  Other restaurants work hard on Sundays...I can't see why this restaurant thinks it's working "any harder" and deserves more...(also cos the food generally wasnt that great)

Anyway - so was just wondering - what is everyone else's view of surcharges AND tipping? Am I just being stingy?
